Instead of sitting in front of the tube and watching Law and Order reruns, join in the Des Moines-area bike culture on one or more of these weekly rides. Bike lights recommended if you plan to be out past 8 p.m.  

Monday 

VeloRosa Cycling (women) instructional rides. 5:30 at Walker Johnston Park in Urbandale. Info: Velorosacycling.com. 

Women’s Weekly Mountain Bike Ride. Leave Ashworth Pool (south of Grand at 45th Street) at 5:30. Ride Center Trails and Denman’s Trails. Info: MRuhtenberg@gmail.com 

Tuesday 

Tuesday Taco Ride. 16 miles roundtrip from Orlando’s on Park (4337 Park Ave.; near the Great Western Trail) to Cumming. Arrive at Cumming Tap early or you’ll miss chef Sam Auen’s tacos. Riders leave Orlando’s between 5‐6:30 p.m. 

Tuesday Night Ride. Granddaddy of weekly rides; 50-miler at race pace. Riders often average 30 mph after pedaling out of metro area. Leaves Grounds for Celebration in Beaverdale at 5:30; plan to arrive about 15 minutes early. Info: eeastonwest@aol.com 

Wednesday 

CITA Taco Ride. About two hours of mountain‐bike riding on Center Trails. Leave at 5:30 p.m. from Rasmussen Bike Shop, 301 Grand, West Des Moines. Refuel with tacos at Giff’s in Valley Junction. No one left behind! Info: centraliowatrails.com. 

Cumming Steak Ride. Riders leave between 5:6:30 p.m. from Orlando’s on Park (4337 Park Avenue; near the Great Western Trail) to Cumming. About 16 miles round-trip. Grill steaks at Cumming Tap. 

Kyle’s Wednesday Ride. Meet at 5:30 at Kyle’s Bikes, 1840 SW White Birch Circle, Ankeny. Distance and pace depends on who show shows up; generally at least two groups. Return about 7 p.m. 

Adel Steak Night Ride. Jump on the Raccoon River Valley Trail wherever convenient. Grill at Rendezvous Lounge on Adel’s Main Street. Anytime after 5 p.m. 

Thursday 

A.S.S. Ride (Ankeny-Sheldahl‐Slater). Meet at the Dog House on Ordnance RD just east of the John Deere plant. Ride High Trestle Trail; about 28 miles round-trip. Dinner at Takedown Bar in Slater. Info: jeffbos67@msn.com 

Saturday 

Ride Green to the Downtown Farmers’ Market. Meet at the Clive Aquatic Center at 9:00 a.m. to the Downtown Des Moines. Info: dmcycleclub.com
